“The work of childhood is to play.”

“Young children learn through imitation.”"What an amazing day.  I seriously feel like any stress I came in with today melted away... What an amazing space for children that you've created.  Zoe couldn't stop talking about you during dinner today.  Zoe remembered the song [from circle] and asks to sing it over and over.  This class is a blessing to my soul --even if I am a super beginner crafter :)  I say all that to say thank you for an amazing first day!" Sweet-Pea Parent, Fall 2015

“Rhythm fosters discipline.”

What do these statements mean for young children and their families? Shepherd Valley Waldorf School’s Parent-Child classes invite children and their parents, grandparents, or caregivers into the Early Childhood classroom to explore these topics in child development. In a two-hour class once a week children play with the materials and toys in the classroom, while their accompanying adults work on simple projects. In our work and play we will learn the meaning of the above statements as we:

  • Make our daily snack of organic ingredients
  • Work and play
  • Move together and laugh with finger plays and circle games
  • Paint with watercolors
  • Eat snack together
  • Spend time outdoors in all weather
  • Hear stories and puppet plays

These classes are intended to be the “gateway” into our school and into Waldorf education, and our hope is parents will discover a new world of learning and support for family life, a dedicated community of other parents, and the way in which Waldorf education addresses the needs of the whole child.
